Edward E Sorenson

May 17, 1931 — May 22, 2016

Edward E. Sorenson, 85, of Scotia, NY passed away peacefully at his home, on May 22, 2016 after an extended and courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late Edward E. Sorenson and Alice Sorenson, Ed was born in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1949. On September 2, 1951 he met and married the love of his life, Jean Grandy and together they celebrated over 64 years of marriage, friendship and devotion. They raised two children together, Edward A. and Nancy. Ed enjoyed many interests, including family vacations and gatherings, music and spontaneously spinning his wife Jean onto a dance floor, reading, working on house projects and an occasional horseshoe game (he was an expert thrower). He also was an active Mason, past Master of the New Hope and member of St. Georges Lodges, and was active in Royal Arch Masons, Commandry, Scottish Rite, Shriners and Red Cross Constantine over his more than 50 years of Masonic service. Ed enjoyed a long and successful career with the New York State Thruway Authority, retiring in 1993 after 37 years of service. Ed is survived by his wife, Jean; two children, Edward (Sally) of Oregon and Nancy Luey (Martin) of Gloversville NY; five grandchildren, Thomas Sorenson (Amy) and Eric Sorenson (Allie), both of Bend OR, Scott Luey (Jamie) of Saratoga, Dane Luey (Courtney) and Evan Luey of Gloversville; seven great grandchildren, Jack, Ben and Chase Sorenson, Anna and Jillian Sorenson, and Isla and Ruby Luey; nephew Douglas Knapp and niece Linda Vanier. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Knapp. Ed will be dearly missed by his family and friends for countless reasons, among them his high character, humor, work ethic, leadership, generosity, and his unabashed love, pride and support for his family. A Celebration of Life will be on Friday June 10, 2016 at 6PM beginning with a Masonic Service at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Visitation will be 4-6PM prior to the service. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Masonic Brotherhood Fund PO Box 9020 Hicksville, NY 11802-9020, or the Shriners Children's Hospital 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104 or the charity of one's choice.
