Edward W. Lis, 81 of Rotterdam passed away peacefully at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital on August 7, 2022.
Born in Schenectady, he was the son of late Stanley J. Lis and Dorothy Mary Feely. Edward attended Draper High School and worked as a master welder at G.E. in Schenectady, NY for 30 plus years. Edward was a skilled craftsman and fabricator who was excellent at taking apart and fixing anything that was considered mechanical and structural in nature. He built and operated a model trainset in his basement. Though out the years, Edward loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed boating and camping with his family at Roger’s Rock Campgrounds on Lake George.
He was a United States Army Veteran who served honorably in Germany until 1964. He was a decorated rifle marksman.
Edward was predeceased by his wife Christie Ann Benkert and a sister Marjorie Garvey. He is survived by one son, Edward Lis (Dorine Peregrim) of Lake Placid, NY, a nephew Chris Belrose (Melissa) and their two children Laura and Ray of Glenville, NY., special neighborhood friends Steve Sabourin, Mabel Cobb, and Dakve Buechler.
Edward would like to extend many thanks to Steve and Mabel for their help and enrichment of his father’s life in in his later years. A special acknowledgement to Dorine Peregrim for her tireless efforts and assistance in advocating and enriching Edward’s life in his later years. Special thanks to the Keene Valley Neighborhood House, Elderwood of Lake Placid, and especially, the nursing staff at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. The excellent care and compassion that Edward received in his final days was extraordinary and will not be forgotten.
A Celebration of Edward’s life will be on Saturday August 13th at 1pm at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Visitation will be from 12-1 prior.
Burial will follow at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Edward may donate to the Elizabethtown Community Hospital Nursing Care Unit or the Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady, Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302.
