Edward (Enrico) Carbo (1935-2025) passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born in Albany, New York on May 11, 1935 Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, and friend. After serving in the Army, he worked as a draftsman at the Watervliet Arsenal for over 20 years. He met Barbara (Hella), his wife of 65 years, on a blind date. It was love at first sight, and a lifelong friendship and love affair ensued.
He leaves behind three daughters, Dr. Laurie Carbo-Porter (Joseph Porter), Dr. Alecia Beard (Robert), Edlyna Talla; Six grandsons, Max Nagelsmith, Edward Talla, Ryan (Lindsey) Beard, Richard (Susan) Beard, Jeremy (Jasmine) Beard, and Anthony (Julie) Beard; and six great-grandchildren, Aidan Beard, Julia Beard, Isabel Beard, Hannah Beard, Liam Beard, Jocelyn Beard.
Edward’s greatest legacy is the joy he brought to the world. His easy smile, sense of humor, and kind, loving presence were gifts he generously shared throughout his life. He made many friends playing tennis, pickleball and trout fishing and is remembered for being a person who would give you the shirt off his back and the shoes off his feet (literally). He was the last surviving of 8 children of Filomena (Di Maio) and Francesco Carbo who immigrated from Caserta, Italy. He identified closely with his Italian heritage and was an incredible cook known for many delicious dishes to which he added his own special ingredient—love.
While Alzheimer’s Disease took away some of his memories and abilities during his final years, it did not take away the twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes and his capacity for love. The last words he could say were, “I love you”. For the eight years he lived with the disease, he was cared for at home by his wife and special caregivers, Cheryl and Joanne. For the last two months of his life, he lived at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta, New York where he was cared for by their wonderful staff as well as the nurses, clergy, and social workers of Hospice of Saratoga County to whom his family is eternally grateful.
A service to celebrate Edward’s life will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 1 pm at Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue in Schenectady, NY. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 to 1 pm. Edward’s final resting place will be the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
