Edward E. Borden

Edward E. Borden, 94, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 25th after a brief illness.

Edward was born on September 27, 1931; the son of Leland E. and Helen (Girvan) Borden.

Ed grew up in the Duanesburg area and was a graduate of Delanson Union Free High School. He continued his education, taking evening classes at Siena College while working days at General Electric. In 1956 he enrolled at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and received a BS degree in Business Administration in 1959.

Ed served in the US Air Force during the Korean war in 1952 and 1953 followed by 6 years in the Air Force Reserve.

Ed lived and worked in southern California for 57 years and moved back to NY in 2017. He qualified for early retirement in 1988 after 25 years of service from Hughes Aircraft Co (now Raytheon) Missile Systems Group. He worked in several US Gov./Hughes Program offices providing the US Government with monthly financial reports and analysis of cost variances, etc.

Ed had a hobby and passion for genealogy, being a 10th generation descendent of Richard and Joan Borden who settled in Portsmouth, RI from County Kent, England in 1635. He also dabbled in real estate flipping several properties while living in Los Angeles, CA.

Ed loved traveling including cruises and US and Canada train tips. He visited Europe 3 times; one trip to So. America including Machu Picchu, Peru. He visited Alaska twice and Hawaii 3 times. He took 2 cruises through the Panama Canal. In Panama, he saw the Army base at the Pacific entrance where his father served for 3 years in the late 1920's. His last foreign trip was to Uganda, Africa to see the mountain gorillas in the wild. Ed enjoyed hiking and long walks as well as gardening.

Ed is survived by a half aunt, Florence Wilming of Rexford and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by two sisters, Carolyn Borden and Arlene Borden-West and a brother, Leland F. Borden.

Burial will be at the Esperance Cemetery after cremation and a private graveside service provided by Bond Funeral Home in Schenectady.
