Eber Hammond Davis, Jr., 79, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Guilderland Center Nursing Home in Guilderland, NY. Born February 9, 1932, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Eber H. and Eliza Hunt Davis. A 1949 graduate of Gloversville High School, he received a B.S. Degree in 1953 from Oneonta State Teachers College and an M.A. degree in 1957 from Columbia University Teachers College. He taught in the elementary grades for 34 years in the Schenectady City School System, retiring in 1987. He taught at Euchid Avenue, Fulton and Elmer Avenue elementary schools. He was organist for First Methodist Church in Johnstown for 5 years and for Broadway United Methodist Church in Schenectady for 40 years. He served as a substitute organist at many other protestant churches in Scotia, Schenectady and Albany. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Scotia. He was also a member of New York State United Teachers, American Guild of Organists and Bridge Line Railroad Historical Society. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary H. Davis of Amsterdam, NY; one daughter, Helena A. Davis of North Carolina; two brothers, Martin E. Davis and wife Beverly of Ballston Spa, NY, and Robert S. Davis and wife Elaine of Phoenixville, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be private.
