Douglas R. DeCarlo, 48, of Rotterdam died peacefully Saturday at home surrounded by his family. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of Robert DeCarlo (Dolores) of Rotterdam and the late Arlene (Palmer) DeCarlo. Doug graduated from Schalmont High School and attended Schenectady County Community College. He was employed for many years as a manager for American Airlines and was a supporter of many causes including Our Brother's Keepers. Doug was a truly compassionate man who lived his life with enthusiasm and love for others, especially for his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and had a way of making each person he met feel like they were the most special person in the world. Doug was a very creative man who possessed much talent in home decorating and even single handedly remodeled his kitchen during his illness. Doug is survived by his partner in life, Richard Walley of Albany, one son Douglas DeCarlo Krandy of Princetown, three brothers Richard DeCarlo of Clifton Park, Gary DeCarlo (Lisa) of Delanson, Robert DeCarlo Jr. (Gretchen) of Rotterdam, one sister Jo-Ann Nikolski (Don) of Schenectady, one step brother Gary Shannon (Jamie) of Stanford, CT, two step sisters, Susan Zarzycki (Donald) of Gansevoort, and Cheryl Samborin (Michael) of Clifton Park, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday 9:15AM at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady followed by a Mass at 10AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 802 Union Street, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening 5-8PM at the funeral home. Internment will be in St. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam. Contributions can be made in Doug's honor to the charity of one's choice.
