Donna Lynn Tallman (Donna Whelan formally married name)
Donna Lynn Tallman passed away in her home at the age of 74 years old. Donna brought energy and inspiration to many through her activities as a teacher, tutor and volunteer.
Born in Albany in 1951 to Clifford and Margaret Tallman, she earned a degree in education at Saint Rose College and married Daniel Whelan. She loved children, worked in many school districts, and tutored children from all walks of life. Later on Donna retired from the NYS Office of the State Comptroller. She loved science and nature, introducing many children to local nature preserves, and leading elementary science activities. She enjoyed cross country skiing, roller skating, music concerts, travel linked to visiting historic organs and science museums, hiking and swimming. Her interest in travel and history was rooted in her ancestry linked to mountainman James Clyman and two native American tribes.
She contributed throughout her life to the American Theater Organ Society, Sunday School, Amatear Radio Association, Duanesburg Historical Society, and multiple organizations for the poor and the Catholic Church. Everywhere she went she brought a positive energy and curiosity for the natural world.
She leaves behind sister Diane (Paul) Simpson, brother Paul (Elaine) Tallman, brother Steve (Judy) Tallman, Son Michael (Tunde) Whelan, and grandchildren Daniel & Thaina (Anchalee). She was predeceased by son Daniel Whelan and father Clifford Tallman.
Contributions in her name can be made to the City Mission of Schenectady or the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley.
The funeral service will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet on Tuesday 10/21/25, with a visiting hour starting at the church at 10 AM, and mass at 11:30 AM.
