Donald A. Hulett, 85, of Schenectady, New York, passed away on September 22, 2026. Donald lived a life marked by service to his family, his community, his faith, and the generations of people whose lives he touched along the way.
Donald had a deep appreciation for the history and heritage of Schenectady. He served as City Archivist for the City of Schenectady, helping to preserve and protect the records and stories that make up the history of the city and its residents. His work reflected his respect for the past and his desire to ensure that Schenectady's history would remain available for future generations.
Donald also worked as a school bus driver, taking on the important responsibility of safely transporting children and becoming a familiar presence in the lives of local families. His involvement with young people extended beyond his work. For several years, Donald managed his son's Little League baseball team, giving his time, encouragement, and guidance to his players and sharing in the memories that come from being part of a team.
Donald's faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, reflecting a commitment to Franciscan values of faith, humility, service, compassion, and care for others.
Above all else, Donald leaves behind a large family and many cherished memories. He is survived by his former wife, Gail Hulett; his children, Christine Hulett, Jeff Hulett, Joseph Hulett and his wife, Jennifer Hulett, and Melissa Hulett; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Donald was predeceased by his son, Orlo Hulett.
His family will remember not only the different roles he held throughout his life, but the many ordinary moments that ultimately become the most meaningful - the conversations, family gatherings, stories, laughter, lessons, and memories shared across generations. His legacy continues through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives crossed his path.
