Charlotte Delores Hamilton passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning January 5th at her home in Scotia, New York. Born and educated in Williamston, North Carolina, she graduated from Edgar J. Hayes High School. Charlotte was the daughter of William Noble Whitley and Martha Nichols Whitley Jones. She moved to Schenectady, NY in 1952. There she married Joseph A. Hamilton. They eventually settled in Scotia, NY.
A loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Charlotte was employed for over thirty years by the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, N.Y. She was a long-standing devout member of the Schenectady Church of Christ.
Charlotte was an avid golfer and was a fan of the both the Dodgers and Mets. She was active in volunteering for and donating to local food banks. She was involved with Schenectady Head Start and drove a local school bus route.
Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Joseph A. Hamilton in 1970, her daughter Charlotte J. Hamilton in 2004 and her brother Edmund Whitley in 2019. Charlotte is survived by her children Billy Hamilton (Paulette) of Atlanta, GA, Michael Hamilton (Elsie) of Albany, Collis Jeanette Allison (Jon) of Tacoma, WA, Joseph C. Hamilton (Ceil) of Silver Springs, MD, Vanessa Callahan (Bob) of Denver, CO, Cathy Hamilton of New Orleans, LA, Lisa Hamilton, of Bronx, NY, Charles Hamilton (Tessa) of Edgewood, MD, Laura Hamilton of Schenectady, Tracy Thompson (Stephen) of West Orange, NJ, Her grandchildren, Summer Hamilton, Jason Cross, Jonathan Allison, Jordan Allison, Christopher Hamilton, Lauren Hamilton, Joseph Callahan, Whitney Callahan, Robert Hamilton, Whitley Hamilton, Gina Hamilton, Linda Hamilton, Courtney Hamilton, Tyler Hamilton, Julian Thompson, Maxwell Thompson, her great granddaughter Isabel Charlotte Hamilton-Gibson, and sister Edith Scott. She leaves to mourn a host of extended family, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday January 15th at 11:00 am at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY. A visitation will precede the service at the funeral home from 10 to 11am. (COVID 19 protocols will be in place and masks are required)
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie, NY.
