Charlotte D Higgins (Dejewski)

Charlotte D. Higgins passed away at home followed by a sudden illness, on Saturday, June 3, 2017 with her children at her side. She was 89. She was the daughter of the late Katherine (Zielinicka) and John Dejewski and raised in Schenectady, the youngest of a large family. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. Charlotte married the late Charles B. Higgins and moved to Rotterdam where she was a homemaker and raised her four children. She later worked for several years with the Stein Insurance Agency in downtown Schenectady, and then with the Genie Agency in Rotterdam for many years until retiring in her 70's. Charlotte is survived by her children, Timothy (Debra) Higgins; their children, Valerie O'Dell, Nikki France, Timothy (Lindsay) Higgins, Jr.; Dennis (late Deborah) Higgins; their daughter Sash (John) Sindoni; Holly (Mark) Barkyoumb; their children, Tanya (Brian) Bellamy, Raemie (David) Swain and Mark (Ally) Barkyoumb, Jr. and Heather Higgins; her son Paul Jenkins, Jr. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, her sister Virginia (late Michael) Betelak and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Charlotte was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Deborah Higgins, and sisters; Sophie McCaw, Stephanie Hoffman, Sally LaRocque, Eleanor Jackson, Mary Fitzpatrick, Bernice Walthers and their husbands. The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and aids at Ellis Hospital, Capital living Rehab Center and Schenectady Hospice for the excellent care provided to our mother. In addition, Tim, Den and Holly would like to express their deepest appreciation to their sister, Heather, who has been Mom's caregiver for the past few years. Funeral Services for Charlotte will be private at the convenience of the family. Charlotte's remains will be interred with her husband Charles in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
