Charles Van Wormer

Charles S. Van Wormer, 91, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. Charles was born in Schenectady, NY on July 29, 1916 and was the son of the late Stephen and Louise Van Wormer. He was a direct descendant of Laurens Jannsen (Van Wormer) who came from Wormer, Netherlands in 1659, and Claas Frederickes (VanPetten) who came from Petten, Netherlands in1664.He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School (1932) and Union College (1936). He was a member of the Scotia Methodist Church. Charles was employed by the General Electric Company for 41 years, retiring in 1977.He was predeceased by his wife Ethel in 2004 after 66 years of marriage.Charles is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Joan Cloos and her husband Tim of Mechanicsburg, PA, and his son John Charles VanWormer and his wife Katherine of Rhinebeck, NY. He is also survived by a sister Olive B. Peters of Niskayuna, NY, and grandchildren: Matthew VanWormer and his wife Rachel Decker of Cortlandt Manor, NY, John VanWormer and his wife Jessica of Brookline, MA, Timothy Cloos and his wife Vicki of Camp Hill, PA, and Jennifer Cloos of Mechanicsburg, PA, a great granddaughter, Rowan Elizabeth VanWormer, and a niece.At Charles' request, there will be no viewing hours or funeral services. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Scotia, NY at the convenience of the family.Memorial donations may be made in Charles' memory to the City Mission of Schenectady, PO Box 760, Schenectady, NY 12307, or to the Salvation Army, PO Box 918, Schenectady, NY 12301.
