Catherine Oleschak, 95, of Schenectady passed away Monday March 18, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born in Schenectady she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Jennie (Kellerhouse) Van Buren. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and also received a degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy as a Dental Assistant. Catherine was employed for Dr. Farina as a Secretary/Assistant. She was a member of the Bellevue Preservation Society. Catherine was a loving mother, grandmother and great grand mother who had a heart of gold. The only thing that mattered to her was her family. Catherine always knew what to say or do when someone needed her. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Catherine always looked forward to spring so she could sit on the porch and visit with people who walked by her. She also enjoyed watching the Monday Night City Council Meeting. Catherine is predeceased by her husband Edward C. Oleschak whom she married April 20, 1935, one daughter Linda Ritchie and her brother and sisters- Edgar, Jake, Harold, Millard, Arthur, Eva Mae, Helen, Mildred and Grace. She is survived by her five daughters Kathleen Hobbs Sheber (Joseph Esposito) of Albany, Joyce Overstreet (Walt) of Scotia, Gloria Bianchi (Robert) of Rotterdam, Valerie Santo of Schenectady and Christine Muscanell (Robert) of Niskayuna, also survived 9 Grandchildren- Patti Hobbs Apa ( Jim), Bonnie Hobbs Jensen ( Joe), Gary Hobbs ( Carol), Rhonda Stansfield Krutz, David Stansfield ( Lisa), Deborah Bianchi Shafarzek ( Karl), Robert Bianchi ( Stacy), Shannon Santo Wetzel (Fred) and Brian Ritchie ( Tricia) as well as several adored great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services are private at the convenience of the family. Internment will be in Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam later in the spring. Contributions can be made in Catherine's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
