Carol Olszewski, devoted mother and lifelong activist, died on Saturday, November 19, after a heroic year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Carol spent her life fighting for those who could not fight for themselves. She was a dedicated social worker, zealous public defender, proud union leader, committed political activist, empathetic workers' compensation judge and founding member of the Peace and Freedom Party in San Francisco. Born in Schenectady, she was a world traveler who explored much of Europe, Africa and Asia. Carol is the daughter of Walter Olszewski and Sophie Sajta. She is survived by her loving daughter Regina Schwartz, who continues her legacy, and her aunt Catherine and uncle John Myzejewski. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bond Funeral Home,1614 Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. The funeral mass will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 9 a.m. at the Church of Saint Adalbert, 550 Lansing Street, Schenectady.
