Reverend Carlton Van Schaick, 87, of Sylvia Lane Rotterdam died Thursday August 3, 2006 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany. Carlton was born in Minoa, NY and was the son of Forest and Lillian (Truck) Van Schaick. He was a graduate of Minoa High School and received a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University in 1942, serving as a Professional Engineer for 60 years. Carlton served in the US Army from 1942-1978, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for the General Electric Company in Schenectady for 27 years. He also was an ordained minister, studying at Liberty University and was a Pastor of the 2nd reformed Church of Howes Cave for 17 years, retiring in 2001. Carlton was the Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Rotterdam from 1974-1980. He was a member of the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (Christian Counselors) serving in that capacity since 1984 at Trinity Reformed Church in Rotterdam. Carlton was a member of the 464th Reserve Unit of Engineers on Hillside Avenue in Schenectady. He was also a Soccer referee. Carlton was a member for 25 years of the Gideons. He served for many years as a volunteer fireman for the Schonowe Volunteer Fire Department. Carlton was a member of the Softball and Volleyball leagues at the Trinity Reformed Church in Rotterdam and also served as a Youth Leader for 6 years at the Church. He was a family man and enjoyed Camping and riding his Motorcycle. Carlton is survived by his wife Ruth E. Smallin Van Schaick whom he married June 20, 1942, three sons Thomas Van Schaick ( Pat) of Burnt Hills, Robert Van Schaick ( Kathy) of Rome, NY and Gary Van Schaick ( Robin) of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, also survived by 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Monday August 7, 2006 at 10AM Trinity Reformed Church 705 Curry Road in Rotterdam. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be Sunday evening 4-7PM at the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Internment will be with full Military Honors in the Gerald B. H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
