Betty J. (Matthews) Looman was born in Schenectady on April 26,1927. The daughter of the late Richard and Nettie Matthews of Schenectady, Betty attended Draper Schools, Mont Pleasant High School and Spencer Business School.
Betty and her husband Irven spent many enjoyable winters in Florida
Betty was a former office worker in the shipping department at the General Electric Company and was a former Secretary for the Fairview Cemetery for over 25 years. She was a secretary for the Princetown Republican Club and a member of the Schenectady County Home Bureau. Betty was a member of Lynnwood Reformed Church and a former member of Bellevue Reformed Church.
She enjoyed cooking, crafts, traveling in their RV on family trips, cruises and buying and selling antiques.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Irven F Looman in 2017, Betty is survived by loving and caring son and his wife, Douglas and Linda Looman, her granddaughter Rebecca Looman and grandsons, Joshua Looman and James Carson and wife Cheryl, great grandchildren, Kyle, Jordyn and Elizabeth Carson and Elijah Harbor and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation for Betty will be held on Wednesday, December 23rd from 11 to 12 noon at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, NY. A service for Betty will take place at 12 noon following the visitation.
Spring interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Princetown, NY.
Betty’s family would like to thank all the nurses, aids and staff at Glendale Nursing Home, where she resided for the past 20 months. They always showed her love and respect. We could not of asked for better care than they willingly gave.
