Bernice Hampton

Bernice Lou Hampton, 70, of Rotterdam, New York, passed away on December 22nd, 2023 with family at her side.  Bernice was born on May 31, 1953 to Francis E. Bronec and Ellen Ames Bronec in Fort Benton, Montana.

Bernice was survived by her children, Michelle L. Hart and James M. Hampton (Candi), former son-in-law Thomas Hart, her grandchildren Kai, Saphire, Zeb, Sam, Camran, Dominic, Caleb, Isaac, Elliot, and William.  Bernice is also survived by her siblings, Marie (Dave), Chuck (Jeanne), Larry (Fran), Bob (Becky), Dorothy (Bernie), Ed (Susan), Pat (Margie), Claude (Nita), and Alan (Niki), as well as her dear friend Anna Phelps, and many nieces and nephews.   She was predeceased by her son Christopher, and brothers Joseph, Paul, and Vince.

Bernice was raised on a farm in Geraldine, Montana, and continued to live in Montana until 2011 when she moved to New York to be closer to her daughter, Michelle, and some of her grandchildren.  Bernice loved going just about anywhere but especially loved going to the grandkids’ sports and music events.

Bernice loved to play Bingo and her entire schedule (including any medical appointments), revolved around what days she was able to play Bingo.  She will be most remembered for her selfless and giving spirit, bringing treats to share with anyone and everyone she met.   Bernice loved telling jokes and, if you received any type of greeting card from her, it likely included hand-written jokes.  If asking her how to spell her name, without fail the answer was “be nice with an R in the middle.”

A visitation will be held on Saturday December 30, 2023, from 10-11 AM at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. A Funeral service for Bernice will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
