Belinda Irene Crossley Holcomb, 79, daughter of the late Eugene and Irene Crossley of Schenectady, New York, passed away peacefully at home on August 19,2006. On May 29, 1947 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Kingston L. Holcomb who preceded her in death in 1998. To this union, two sons and six daughters were born: Kingston C. Holcomb of Baltimore; Maryland, Dr. Lawrence E. Holcomb of Lynn, Massachusetts; Shiela H. Smith of Wilmington, Delaware; Dr. Zelda J. Holcomb of Columbia Maryland; Maj. (Ret. ) Julia R. Holcomb of Schenectady; Robin Holcomb-Upshur of Schenectady; Octavia H. Tompkins of Schenectady; and Susan K. Holcomb of Kingston, New York. Belinda was born and raised in Schenectady, New York and was a graduate of Nott Terrace Nigh School Belinda worked at the General Electric Company, the Schenectady Children's Shelter and retired from the Glendale Nursing Home in 1984. She served as a volunteer at King and Zoller Elementary Schools and the Schenectady City Mission. She also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a long time active member of Friendship Baptist Church of Schenectady. Belinda was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She stressed the importance of education, family and putting God fIrst in your life. She loved music, particularly gospel music, horses, crocheting and reading her Bible. She has left to mourn her passing her children, her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Eugenia and Leonard Cummings Sr. of Schenectady; sons-in-law Frank Upshur and Alfred Tompkins of Schenectady; and daughter-in-law Diane Holcomb of Baltimore Maryland; cherished nieces Stacey Bonner, Regina Aldi, Amanda and Adrienne Crossley; nephews Jamie and Leslie Thompson and Leonard Cummings Jr.; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends that will miss her. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon August 24, 2006 at 1 pm at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue,Schenectady,NY. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 to 1 pm prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery.
