Beatrice "Betty" Remus

April 19, 1924 — May 26, 2015

Beatrice "Betty" M. Remus passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at home, at the age of 91. Betty was born in Schenectady on April 19, 1924, to Clara M. (Gunn) and Wesley S. MacFarlane. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High and worked for General Electric Co. in their Federal and Marine section during WWII. Betty married her husband William in 1948 and built their house in Glenville, where they lived their lives and raised their children. She was married to William until his death in 1973. Following her husband's death she was an executive secretary for the YWCA in Schenectady for over 30 years until her retirement. Betty was a 50 year member of the Glenville Hill Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, serving as president and historian. Betty loved dancing and singing, and was a member of the choir at the Burnt Hills Baptist Church. She was a kind, generous, loving person, who always put others first, and will be dearly missed by her family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Albert and Wesley Jr. Betty is survived by her daughters Betty Branwell (Peter) and Bonnie Lange (Craig), granddaughters Michelle Lange and Alaina Resue (James), and great granddaughter, Haley Deemer. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held for family on Friday, May 29, 10:30AM. A memorial service will be announced at a future date. The family would like to thank Betty's aides Denise, Nina, Anita, Shari and Melina for the loving care that they provided during the last years of her life.
