Barbara Jean Tourtellot Foti, died peacefully at Ellis Nursing Center on February 19, 2016. She was born February 23, 1937, on the farm which is now Clifton Commons, where five generations of her family lived from 1856-1963. Barbara was the daughter of Gertrude King Colton and Charles Tourtellot and step daughter to Harold Colton. Her grandparents were Henry and Bertha Tourtellot and Rev. Fred King, who was pastor of Clifton Park Center Baptist church for 17 years. She began her education at the one room schoolhouse, that once stood at the corner of Vischer's Ferry Rd. and Clifton Park Center Rd. She finished grade school in Alplaus, attended Burnt Hills and graduated from Draper High School in 1955. She received a B.S. degree from S.U.C. Oneonta. Barbara taught for 28 years in the Mohonasen Central School District at Bradt and Carmen Schools, during which time she also supervised many student teachers. While at S.U.C.O., she met and married Pat Foti at St Mary's Church in Oneonta. They were married for the past 57 years and have 3 sons: Scott (Enolia) of Corning, NY, Mark (Dianne) of Ballston Spa, and Damian (Alicia) of Halfmoon. They have 6 cherished grand children: Dylan, and Danielle, Nicholas and Joseph and Ethan and Grace. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins. Barbara was a member of the Clifton Park Center Baptist Church, where for many years she sang in the choir. She also taught Sunday School, Junior Church and Vacation Bible School. She also served on the Board of Christian Education. Barbara would also attend St. Joseph's Church in Scotia with her husband Pat. During her retirement years, she enjoyed walking with friends and meeting for early AM breakfast and lunches. Reading was also a favorite pastime. She volunteered at Baptist Health and Rehab Center, started a Red Hat group and was a member of Schenectady County Retired Teachers Association. She and Pat spent many winters in Venice, Florida, where they shared good times with many "Snowbird "friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the Ellis Nursing Center (Edison Wing) for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Barbara and her family. A memorial service will be held at Clifton Park Center Baptist Church, on Tuesday February 23rd at 11 am. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Oneonta, NY in the spring. There will be no viewing hours.
