Barbara M. Kristel, 80, passed through the gates of Heaven on Tuesday morning December 6th at St Peter's Hospital after a brief illness with her family by her side.
Born in Niskayuna on April 15, 1942, Barbara was the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Jaskiewicz) Konieczka “Koney” and was a 1960 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School.
Barbara married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life Melvyn Kristel on July 1, 1962, they were married for over 60 wonderful years.
A devoted wife and mother, she had a heart of gold and took care of her entire family’s needs. She loved to spend her time with her family, preparing delicious meals for gatherings and especially holiday events. She loved to travel to area lakes, family vacations to Wildwood Crest and Florida which include her extended family.
A former Private Executive secretary with N.Y.S. Dept. of Motor Vehicles for several years, Barbara later worked for over 20 years in the Payroll Department for K-Mart.
Beside her parents, Barbara was also predeceased by her beloved grandson, Jonathan Mills.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband Melvyn and her two devoted children, Renee Mills and Melvyn Kristel (Debra), cherished grandchildren, Jason Mills and Kayla Kristel, her close sister and friend, Karen Neumann (James).
A visitation for Barbara’s family and friends will be held on Sunday December 11th from 4 to 7 pm at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 12th at 9:15 am at funeral home, followed at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment in St. Adalbert Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY
In lieu of Flowers contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
