Barbara J Grinter

October 23, 1957 — July 11, 2021

With heavy hearts we announce Barbara Joyce Grinter died on July 11, 2021. She was a beloved sister, and friend. Barbara was born on October 23, 1957, in Schenectady, NY to Len and Helen Grinter. She lived her first years in Quaker Springs, Saratoga County, before her family move to the Highbridge area of Rotterdam. She attended Mohonasen and Notre Dame High schools. She loved meeting people. To quote William Butler Yeats, “There are no strangers here only friends you haven’t yet met.” Barbara lived that philosophy. She loved phone visits with friends and family. She enjoyed hosting and attending parties. She loved music and dancing. Barbara was a kind and caring person who never saw people based on the color of their skin, or where they came from, as she loved everyone. She was so proud of her family, and she always enjoyed the annual Grinter family reunions with all her father’s family. Barbara worked at Friendlies restaurant, the Union Street Home, and Price Chopper. She volunteered at the Union Street Home, and American Red Cross Blood drives. She also volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Non-For-Profit Self Help and Peer Advocacy Group providing support for Mental Health. In later years she would take the bus to the library and take out books to read to young Brianna who lived across the street.

Barbara is predeceased by her Grandparents Harry P. and Jessica Sweet, Morton C. and Dorothy Grinter. Father Leonard Grinter, Mother Helen (Sweet) Grinter; Aunts Betty (Sweet) Skinner (Charles), Geraldine (Grinter) Griffin (Leo), Glee (Grinter) Simmons (Robert), Cousins Dorothy and James Simmons, Charles (Bud) Skinner, and Second cousins Dr Robert, Barbara, and Randy Smith.

Barbara leaves behind her loving brother Ed (June) Grinter, and loving sister Betsey (Tom) McBride, Nieces Kate (John) Winter and Kerri (Jay) Fowler, Cousins Norman Griffin, Peggy Puffer, Sue Skinner, Peggy Cochran, Billy Skinner, Janie Joy, Jane Simmons and Mary Erbes. She also leaves behind close family friends: Aunt Joyce Hulka, Glenn Raymus, Marlyn Bisgrove, Mildred Restifo, and Barbara Shumaker.

We are ever so grateful of the compassionate, caring, and precious staff at Health Alliance Hospital Broadway (Kingston Hospital) and the Northeast Center for Rehabilitation and Brain Injury.

All are welcome on Monday July 19, 2021 to visitation between 1:00 and 2:00 PM at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY., followed by a Celebration of Her Life at 2:00PM. Directly following will be her burial at Vale Cemetery.
