Audrey S. Van Alstine, 84, of Rotterdam passed away Thursday October 10, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Cherry Valley, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Frances (Granger) Smith. Audrey was a graduate of Cherry Valley High School and received her bachelor's degree from SUNY at Cortland and her master's from SUNY at Albany. She was a guidance counselor for the Schalmont School District for 31 years. Audrey was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Schenectady. She was an avid golfer and was a member of Pinehaven Country Club. Audrey was a volunteer at the Schenectady Inner City Ministry. She enjoyed playing Bridge, traveling and maintaining her home. Audrey is predeceased by her husband, Albert S. Van Alstine whom she married April 27, 1957, one brother Richard Smith and one sister Margaret Wellstood. She is survived by her sister Glenna Lane of Sharon Springs, four nieces-Lisa Young ( Brian) of Sharon Springs, Darlene Lane ( John Noetzel) of Princetown, Janet MacEldowney ( Tom) of TN and Elaine Baker ( Mark) of PA, one nephew Jason P. Lane of Arizona, also survived by several great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be Saturday October 19, 2013 at 11AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1911 Fairview Avenue Schenectady. Visitation will be Friday evening 6-8PM at Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Ave Schenectady. Inurnment will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery. Contributions can be made in Audrey's memory to St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1911 Fairview Avenue Schenectady, NY 12306 or to the Schenectady Inner City Ministry 1055 Wendell Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12308.
