Anna V. Battaglia Grasso, Schenectady, New York. Wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was the needed hug, soothing touch, sympathetic ear, open heart, bared soul. A beautiful smile, infectious laugh, twinkling eyes. Making life a better place. Making everything look so easy. So many have lost so much. Anna, 91, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 peacefully in her sleep. Born in Schenectady, New York, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Caroline (Altieri) Battaglia and was the sister of the late Mary (Joseph) Pecora and the late Laura (Vince) Romano. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church. A legal secretary, then homemaker, Anna was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and Mildred Elley Business School. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Nicholas J. Grasso, who she married November 10, 1946. She was predeceased by two sons, John N. Grasso (Melody and her son Joseph Pollack) and Lawrence P. Grasso (Deborah) and is survived by her son Paul C. Grasso (Jeannette Le Gere) and her grandsons Nicholas J. Grasso II and Patrick L. Grasso. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, especially her sister Mary's children, Joseph Pecora, Sandi Timberlake, and Barbara Arbor who she deemed as her own after the early passing of their mother. She was an original member of the Lady Bugs Golf League, past president of the Schenectady County Bar Association Auxiliary, Abruzzi Women's Auxiliary, St. Paul's Rosary Society, Bishop Gibbons Mother's Club, and the Bishop Gibbons Alumni Association. She enjoyed the company of and playing cards with the St. Paul's Seniors, and she chaired, for many years, the festivals of St. Paul's Church. She was a founding member of the Bill Road Pinochle Card Club started in 1952 and continues today. She loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout her life. Above all things, she cherished her family and friends. She had friendships going back 80+ years and continued to develop new friendships until her last day. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her companion and caregiver, Aba Asaba, who for over a year has been a great friend and a caring person and had brought happiness and joy into every day. Funeral Services for Anna will be Tuesday 10:15 am at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady followed by a Mass at 11am at St. Paul the Apostle Church 2733 Albany Street Schenectady. Calling Hours will be Monday evening 4-7PM at the funeral home.The St. Paul Rosary Society will meet at 4PM at the funeral home. Internment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
