Alverta "Midge" Tompkins

Alverta "Midge" L. Tompkins, 79, went to be in the presence of the Lord, after suffering from a long illness Friday, January 16, 2015. Alverta was married for thirty-three years to the love of her life, Alfred Tompkins, who preceded her in death. She was one of six children and is survived by her sister Dolores King. She will be greatly missed by her children Alfred Tompkins (Octavia), Alverta Tompkins, Aaron Tompkins (Amiee), 7 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Alverta lived in Schenectady, NY all her life and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. She was an active member of Bethel AME Church, where she served as President of the Missionary Board for a number of years. Alverta was a Nurse's Aide at Kingsway Arms where she received numerous awards and certificates. Being a homemaker and mother was a priority for her. She served her community in many ways, such as, taking part in the Schenectady Inner City Summer Lunch Program and being an active supporter of the City Mission of Schenectady. Visitation on Thursday, January 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Calvary Tabernacle Assembly Church, 1840 Albany Street, Schenectady.
