Allan Anderson

August 23, 1942 — August 7, 2025

Schenectady, NY

Allan Anderson (83) passed away August 7, 2025.

Allan loved racing! Racing anything! He was on the Cross-Country team at Mohonasen High School. For a time, he raced bikes and snowmobiles, but his real passion was racing cars!

He and his gang of car crazy 'Fonzie' friends raced stock cars, but Al migrated to drag Racing and then Sports Car Club of America racing. There he had great success with his ‘76 Corvette. He held the track record for his class at many well-known sports car tracks such as Watkins Glen, Three Rivers and others. He was Sports Car Club of America's (SCCA) Rookie of the Year in his Club racing division his first year of racing and won his division at Road Atlanta.

His experience racing and fine-tuning cars lead to him starting a business doing this for other racing enthusiasts. He was well known in the local car racing world for his talent getting the most out of an engine. His experience race driving also lead to him design racing suits, fireproof under garments and helmets under his Race Mark brand, which greatly improved the comfort and safety needed in the racing environment. His custom-made suits were worn by many racing celebrities including Paul Newman. So many that Bell Racing bought his designs.

Al also worked in other related industries for a while but eventually came back home to Schenectady and started his Media Well Done printing business.

Al was active in many ways in the city of Schenectady. Due to his declining health, he sold the business and was basically retired.

Over the years, Al stayed in touch with many of his early friends and truly enjoyed them. Al also loved his family and was always there for them.

Al is survived by his brother, Bruce Anderson of Sprakers, NY and sister Lynne Anderson and brother-in-law, William (Bill) Powell of Amsterdam, NY and many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father George, mother (Violet) Pearl Anderson (Dana), sister Judy Fernandez, brothers Donald and William (Bill) Anderson and his beloved Corgi, Shasta.
