Alfred Joseph Giardenelli "The Old Trapper" Rotterdam, NY- On the night of February 2nd a man of great dignity, integrity, generosity and humor passed away after a long struggle. A man's short time on earth can be measured by the positive impact he had on all those who came in touch with him. The Old Trapper's passing is a great loss to many people however his philosophy on life has and will guide us as we continue on our journey. Born in Schenectady, Alfred was the son of the late Daniel and Rose (Rotonde) Giardenelli and brother of the late Harry Giardenelli. An army veteran of WWII, he worked for the General Electric Company for over 33 years, retiring as the Head of the company's welding school in 1973. A member of St Madeleine Sophie Church, the Rotterdam Elks, the Annie Schafer and Rotterdam Senior Citizens and VFW Post 1895. Alfred served in the C.C.C. camps in Cherry Valley and was an avid golfer, fisherman, card player and bowler. He is survived by his beloved wife Rose (Ricciardi) Giardenelli and three children, Alfred Giardenelli Jr. and wife Karen of Niskayuna, David Giardenelli and wife Carol of Delanson and Doreen Gabriele and husband Rudy of Guilderland, two sisters, Marjorie Arresta and Helen Craig both of Florida, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday February 6, 2007 at 11 am at the Teresian House, Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12205. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers contribution may be made in his memory to the Teresian House, Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12205.
