Agnes C Matthews

Agnes C. Matthews, 79, passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2015 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Duryea, PA, Agnes was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Yeager. Agnes worked for The Daily Gazette in the circulation department for 27 years until her retirement in 1998. She later worked at Duanesburg Elementary School as a teacher's aide. Agnes was an avid reader and she loved traveling. Agnes was predeceased in 2009 by her husband of 53 years, John D. Matthews. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Anna Tetlak, Margaret Lewis and Joseph, Edward and Bernard Yeager. She leaves behind her children, John Matthews, Jr. (Cindy) of Pattersonville, James Matthews of Rotterdam and William Matthews (Cindy) of Kingman, AZ, her grandchildren, Chris Matthews, sisters, Eleanor Sweet of Carlisle, PA, Teresa Clark of Mount Pocono, PA, Lucille Hranj of Flemington, NJ, Mayme Novak, of Brooklyn, NY and Patricia Slurff of Schenectady and one brother, Andrew Yeager of Long Beach, CA. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
