Adrian J. Baetens, 99, passed away after a short illness on June 14, 2016 at his home in West Springfield, Ma. surrounded by his loving family. Adrian was born in Wouw, the Netherlands in 1917 to his parents Achiel Baetens and Cornelia Norbart. After growing up in the Netherlands, he served the Queen in the Royal Dutch Navy Marine Corps as a machinist mate, stationed in Aruba during World War II. After the war, he immigrated to the U.S, where he became a citizen in 1955. He worked for the General Electric in Schenectady, NY in the turbine division for 35 years until his retirement. He loved fishing and traveled with his wife Marion fishing the rivers of upstate NY. Adrian was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Marion Rorick Baetens, his stepson Eugene Chance and his wife Marsha and several siblings. Adrian is survived by his sister Emma, his niece Lian and her husband Albert, his nephew Johan and his wife Karin, as well as other nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and England. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren in the Schenectady area, as well as his son Richard Baetens of Kattskill Bay, NY Lois Baetens of Westfield, Ma, 3 grandchildren Sara Baetens young and husband Brian of Vermont, Wendi Baetens Hieronyomus and husband Paul of NH and Mollie Baetens Silenga and husband Eric of Westfield, Ma, 5 great grandchildren, his loving adopted daughter Cynthia Elderkin of West Springfield and his dog Kaleb. A funeral celebration will be held on Saturday afternoon June 18th at 1 pm at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 to 1 pm prior to the funeral service. Interment in Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY Contributions may be made in Adrian's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of America or to a Charity of your Choice.
