Obituary for Elizabeth A. Beranek (Spohn)

Elizabeth A. Beranek, 96, of Schenectady passed away at Ellis Hospital on Saturday February 20, 2021. Born in Gloversville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ina (Abbey) Spohn.

She was a graduate of Gloversville High School in 1942. Elizabeth later attended the Ellis School of Nursing and graduated in 1946. She then went on to become the head of Nursing at Ellis Hospital from 1949-1972. Later Elizabeth worked as an RN for the medical practice of Dr. Barlyn, retiring in 1995. She was also a member of the American Association of Medical Assistance.

Elizabeth was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady. She later became a member of St. Luke’s Church in Schenectady.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Kenneth W. Beranek whom she married July 19, 1947 and one daughter Cheryl Beranek.

Elizabeth is survived by her three children Denise Whitehouse of Schenectady, John Beranek (Deborah) of Burnt Hills and James Beranek of Schenectady. She is also survived by five grandchildren P. Joshua Whitehouse(Julia), Rachel Lassiter, Daniel Whitehouse, Joseph Whitehouse and Jessica Beranek as well as eight great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Elizabeth will be Thursday February 25, 2021 at 2PM at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Face masks and social distancing are required. A Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2PM.

Interment will be in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady.
